As a member of the board of directors at the Mental Health Association in New Jersey, I am exhilarated to encounter the storefront of the Mental Health Aberdeen! Their mission as a local charity is to provide free counseling and information services to children, young people and adults experiencing difficulties related to their mental health and wellbeing across Aberdeen City and Shire. There’s no coincidence how their efforts run in-line with the personal and professional commitment to serve those in need of mental health services, as outlined in my book. This need is universal and there’s lots of mending to do.

I’m honored to donate ‘Rise Above’ to A.B. Yule Book Store and Deeside Books located in Balatar, where we stayed as well as the Banchory Library located near the Crathes Castle.

Embedded in Scotland’s rich history and culture is the iconic red poppy. In November, the Scottish Poppy Appeal distributes them in remembrance and as one way to raise vital funds to help the Armed Forces community, which is comprised of thousands of service people, who may benefit from programs related to advice, employment, mobility, housing and mental health support.

It’s clear to me the Scottish are exemplary people who ‘Rise Above’ and we could all take a page from their playbook.
