Mission: To Be A Well-Human-Being
From a clinical standpoint, Americans still have challenges in recognizing if we’re doing ‘well.’ It has been recently observed and supported with a poll, many people don’t know if they’re coughing because they didn’t drink enough water this past week, are suffering from pollutants, allergies, with post nasal drip or have some variant of the flu or Covid. So what does this heightened physical awareness have to do with our health and well-being? Everything.
Human Doing vs. Human Being. We’re all so busy ‘doing’ so much stuff. Keeping our schedules. Sticking to our calendars. Fulfilling our commitments and promises. The embedded cultural and societal messages, if we ‘run a tight ship’, we’ll look, feel and be successful remain. But what if we practiced mindfulness and created the space, as an observer, between what our bodies are telling us and how we respond to emotional triggers? Limit the hustle. Put healthy boundaries around the extras. Say, ‘No!’ And step into being human. Release the ‘doing’, for a moment. Relish in the now. Imagine, if you can. How would you feel? Would you feel ‘good’? Maybe it’s uncomfortable. Perhaps not. Would you feel ‘well’? Have you forgotten what ‘well’ feels like?
Well, Defined, Isn’t Always So Well-Defined. To be ‘well’ means you’re in good health; free or recovered from physical or mental chronic health conditions and acute illnesses. Being well is a state of mind and body. Ever feel like ‘doing my best’ just isn’t good enough? You can do good and not be well. Notice the difference.
Healthy Step: Make Time For Your Health ~ Ask yourself, “What does my ‘well’ look and feel like?”
What does being ‘well’ mean to you? Do you remember the last time you started a new adventure? I mean something that really mattered to you. Not just saying. Not just doing. And embracing – as a Human. As a Human Being. As a Well-Being. As a Well-Human-Being. Were you emotionally afraid? Did you have to let go of any non-serving, negative self-narratives? Or were you physically excited to act on your values and live your mission? Or a hybrid of both? How did it all unfold? What were some of the outcomes? The good, the wicked and everything in between.
